New Opera CO is an independent group with an alternative approach to the notion of opera, music drama. Niklas Rydén founded the group in 2006.
New Opera CO is exploring the anathomy of opera by using opera technique in a contemporary music drama context. New Opera CO is therefore working with professional singers with a background in jazz, pop and improvisation.

New Opera CO also emphasises the collective process and everyone’s input is important in the creation of a work. New Opera CO experiments in a crossover context with different art forms. Visual projections and dance has been important parts of their work. New Opera CO has made two big operas: Uppvind and Vi i Villa.
